I've noticed almost everyone has Sam as the one to force things. Something about Dean - he's just so invested in everyone else's happiness he can't allow himself any. I think that's why it killed me so when Dean glimpses a happier life (in "What is and What Should Never Be") and *Sam* tells him at the end that it wasn't real and he can't have it and he's got to go right on saving the world. Bad enough to know it, but to have Sam tell it to him. There's just no comfort for Dean.
