I thought I’d read all your long fics but I’ve been checking my ‘have read’ list against the master lists of my favourite writers & I‘d missed this one, which was very exciting :D.
Your fics always hit me right in the feels & I couldn’t put this one down. I love how you can pull off late-series, first-time Wincest. That takes a bit of selling for me & you always nail it. The sparks were flying in this, with the way Sam slowly found out about Dean’s feelings & that final rough sex scene. I also thought Crowley was very in-character, coveting both brothers & baiting Sam & Dean over their feelings. Chomaisky’s art was also incredible & worked beautifully with the story.
I stopped watching SPN after the ep. where Sam said they weren’t brothers (in S9), in large part because I couldn’t take any more heart-hurt after their S8 rift :’(, so I wussed out & didn’t watch the Mark of Cain storyline play out, but I've kept up with the basic plot & I read that Rowena found a lost spell book & spelled it out (sounded a little deus ex machina :s). I love, & waaay prefer, your alternative - Sam being equally ‘worthy’, making that huge sacrifice & sharing the burden. I think that would’ve also made for a much more interesting storyline, going forward, in the show.
I got goosebumps over the line - where Sam was explaining to Dean why he did it - ‘“You’re my brother,” he says, and it’s the answer. It always has been.’ I found that, and also the discussion about the various ways they’d messed up & hurt each other, really cathartic. And that ending - ‘They were never meant to be parted – not by angels or demons or fate itself’, & Sam twining their fingers together *sigh*.
