And one more, in the 'Not Like This' drabble series for this challenge I've so enjoyed!
Season 8
It takes Sam six weeks to recover from the trials. Dean is sitting beside him whenever Sam can force his eyes open. At the hospital, in a blue plastic chair, chin in hands and despair in his eyes. At the bunker, in an overstuffed chair he’s dragged into Sam’s room, a cautious hope in his expression.
Sam has a lot of time to replay Dean’s words in the church – and to finally believe them.
It takes Sam six weeks to recover, but only six seconds more to pull his brother from that chair and kiss him senseless.
“Sam?”
Like this,” Sam says.

That final ‘like this’ is so satisfying. There is the relief that Sam is awake and is going to be okay, and it’s finally just them (presumably without Gadreel in this version) together and on the same page and the kiss says neither one is going anywhere.
There is also the crescendo of finally correcting the preceding ‘not like this’-s. I love that as a literary tool. That feeling of looking everywhere for something: no not here, not under here either, not over here, where can it be?!…. And then the relief you feel when you finally find what you are looking for: ahhhhh here it is! Finally!! I love that this format of storytelling invokes those same emotions and that same payoff at the end 🤗 so good.
So good! 😁 cheers!
